The "SEE THRU RECOVERY" Story

I Wasn't Your Typical Junkie

My home was "All-American." Both parents working in the medical field, went to church twice on Sundays and every Wednesday from Kindergarten thru High School. Everything I needed was provided, and a lot of my "wants" were as well.

BUT... there were some things that happened before the age of 18 that influenced my decision making. Such as comments made by the people I was trying to make proud, like, "you aren't trying hard enough" or "you didn't forget, you just didn't think". No one knew that my brain worked differently. That I was "trying my best" but my attention span was very short, or distracted easily. I was always fidgety, needed to get up and go to the bathroom everywhere we went, and a chatter box!

Other things were done maliciously, by so-called friends, and damaged the part of me that trusted. It took all those years of wonderful parenting and Bible teaching away from my heart. Long enough to choose people, places, and things that would end up STEALING my joy, my sanity, and my identity for 15 years!

My hope since I found my recovery in 2017 is that I can find a connection to people in my community. One that doesn't require an addiction, but requires a desire to change. To inspire others that no  matter how bad it seems, there IS HOPE! The things that I believed were unreachable at 38 years old, became a reality within 3 - 5 years. I thought my dreams of being a homeowner, a dependable mom, a mentor, and a resource for others was only for those that started their recovery journey early... I was wrong!

Pain Clinic to Detox is a Rough Road

"Secrets Keep You Sick"

When I found myself deep in addiction, I thought no one would understand. Yes, it started out with parties and wanting to experiment. But when I went to a pain management clinic is when my addiction hit an all time low.

I never knew anyone that had overcome an addiction as bad as mine and SUSTAINED IT.  When I finally put it all down for good in 2017, I knew then that I had to spread the word:

  • Shine the light so others could see that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE!
  • Be a beacon of HOPE for those that have become hopeless.
  • Inspire others to share their stories of victory over mental health challenges and addiction issues.
  • Break Stigma & Recover Out Loud so my generation can stop dying in silence.

But to really understand the significance of it all, you have to know more about the 15 years that I secretly battled 2 severe mental illness diagnosis along with poly-substance use disorder (co-occurring). There were times that I was "clean", but when I was, I was depressed. I was also a mom, with postpartum depression, married to my sons father, working full-time... often 2 jobs. Life was full. Busy. And I always felt like I couldn' t keep up.

Plus, I had many "takers" around me back then. For a "giver" like myself, I fell prey fairly quickly, and became a target to some really narcissistic and unwell individuals.
