EMDR

Painful or traumatic life experiences can leave lasting impacts on the way we think, feel, and respond. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based approach that helps the brain “reprocess” difficult memories so they no longer feel as overwhelming or disruptive in daily life.

At Breaking Through, our trained therapists use EMDR to support healing from trauma, anxiety, grief, and other challenges. This therapy helps you reduce distress, build healthier patterns, and move forward with a greater sense of calm and control.

Are You Pregnant and Need Help To Find Recovery?

Tobacco Use During Pregnancy

Quitting at any point during your pregnancy provides immediate benefits to your baby’s health. If you are looking for support to quit smoking, evidence-based tools and specialized programs can assist you in finding success.

There is an incorrect perception that vaping represents a safer alternative to cigarette smoking because users are not inhaling tobacco combustion products, these products often contain nicotine or nicotine salts. Even if nicotine is not present in the e-liquid, exposure to flavorings and combustion products from the heating mechanism occurs. Nicotine crosses the placenta and intake in any form has considerable health risks with known adverse effects on fetal brain and lung tissue

Healthy Moms. Strong Babies.

Secondhand smoke is smoke you breathe in from someone else’s cigarette, cigar, pipe or other tobacco product. Secondhand smoke is dangerous for you and your baby. Being around secondhand smoke during pregnancy can cause your baby to be born with low birthweight or birth defects.

Secondhand smoke also is dangerous to your baby after birth. Babies exposed to secondhand smoke are more likely than babies who aren’t to die of SIDS.

Thirdhand smoke is what’s left behind when someone smokes. It’s what you smell on things like clothes, furniture, carpet, walls, skin and hair that’s been in or around smoke.

Thirdhand smoke contains more than 250 chemicals and is harmful to pregnant women, babies and children.

Pregnant and Addicted? When It's Hard To Say "I Quit"

Substance use, or taking drugs and drinking alcohol, is not recommended during a pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Substance use can have a wide range of harmful effects on a developing baby, especially on their brain. Substance use may cause a baby to go into withdrawal at birth. Other effects may only be seen as a child grows up and is learning to walk, talk, and learn in school.

To have the healthiest pregnancy and baby possible, try to quit using substances. If you are unable to quit, reduce your use as much as possible. Getting prenatal care, even if you are unable to stop use, can still be one of the best things you can do for your baby’s health.

Pregnant and parenting people who use substances face tremendous stigma and judgment when they seek medical care. Experience with bias, judgment, and scrutiny – especially from healthcare workers, loved ones, family, and friends – can isolate people and make it harder to seek prenatal care, mental health counseling, social services, and community support.

People don’t like to go to places where they don’t feel welcomed. They may fear for their safety, or the safety of their children, or their pregnancy. That’s why having even one nonjudgmental and trustworthy person to support them can make all the difference in the world.
