A Higher Power: any force greater than oneself that provides strength, guidance, & hope. It can be spiritual, religious, or secular (nature, universe, love) helping individuals in recovery find support, surrender control, & foster personal growth beyond their own willpower.
Addiction often leaves an addict feeling isolated & powerless, and believing in something greater can offer comfort & direction. This belief helps people surrender control, which is essential for healing and breaking the cycle of addiction.
When I personally talk about a Higher Power, I am talking about Jesus... because that's who I had an experience with in my recovery. Actually more than that... 2 miracles on 2 different occasions. Therefore, my trust is in Him. I have asked Him for guidance in my career, wisdom in my relationships, discernment in my decisions, & protection in my walk. He has never let me down!
I don't expect everyone else to believe exactly what I believe. But I would be doing a disservice to my own story if I didn't tell you what has changed my life.
I tried to be independent. I looked for peace in many forms of spiritual enlightenment. What I found was Jesus was the ONLY LIVING GOD! Not a sculpture or a tomb to pray to. It taught me that I needed to surrender my life to a living Christ, invite Him into my heart, and ask Him to change me. Only then I found the "something" I had been searching for in everything else: grace, forgiveness, identity, purpose, and hope.
No matter what others believe, the evidence of change in my life makes my faith undeniable and not a topic for discussion or up for argument.
Pastor Roger Ewing talks about what to expect from White Oak Worship Center in person and on the website. Because The Bible never changes, the teaching never changes. Just the decor, a few leadership roles, and small groups come and go. But our Jesus NEVER changes!
Senior Pastor Kevin Woodard speaks on Honoring the Nations:
Requirements of the Church to Reach the Nations.

Rare of Breed releases a heavy, heartfelt and raw reflection on the struggles of the past year (2025). This personal Psalm captures moments of frustration, anger, grief, and despair, but also reveals the healing power of truth and faith in the Lord. It’s an honest reminder to pause, release burdens, and find peace in God’s presence.

"I'd listen to a chapter until I fell asleep, sometimes 2 or 3 chapters if I couldn't sleep. As a result He's ignited my spirit in ways that continue to blow me away every day! God's Word and my faith just drew closer and stronger... it was like an anchor tying me back to reality.
I feel like He's turned my entire life around. I've had physical healing, emotional healing, I've got real purpose in my life again."
"When I had nowhere else to go he showed up in a real way."
